Georgia GSWCC Adds FODS to Equivalent BMP List

Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission (GSWCC) Grants Approval for use of FODS Trackout Control Mat System As Construction Exit (Co) throughout the State of Georgia.

FODS has been presented as a lower cost, longer lasting alternative to the current Georgia specification “Co - CONSTRUCTION EXIT” which is defined in the Georgia Manual For Erosion and Sediment Control In Georgia (source) as follows:

A stone-stabilized pad located at any point where vehicular traffic will be leaving a site onto a public right-of-way, street, roadway, or parking area. Its purpose is to reduce or eliminate transportation of soil (by motor vehicles) from the construction area onto public rights-of-way.

Georgia GSWCC Approval

As contractors continue to use FODS’ modern, reusable BMP for Construction Vehicle Track-Out Controls on their job sites, the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission (GSWCC) has reviewed the system as an equivalent BMP. The main differences between the FODS product and the current Georgia specifications for Construction Exit (Co) include elimination of the aggregate layer and associated geotextile and replacing them with a reusable, durable plastic mat. After reviewing the performance of the FODS Trackout Control System on two sites over the course of one year, the GSWCC has concluded that the system is approved for use on projects throughout the state.

GSWCC Approves FODS As Equivalent BMP For Use Throughout The State.

I am pleased to inform you on behalf of the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission that your submittal for approval on the Equivalent BMP List for the State of Georgia was acted on and approved on December 14th 2022. The following product will be added to Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission’s Equivalent BMP List.

Product Name: FODS Reusable Construction Entrance Application: “Co” Construction Exit

FODS Construction Entrance Details

Contractors working on projects in the state of Georgia can now use the FODS Trackout Control System as a replacement for traditional rock entrances whenever a Construction Exit (Co) is specified for the project. As a reusable, effective system, operators can benefit from the effective tracking mitigation system while significantly reducing per-entrance costs.

In addition to reduced costs, the system helps contractors increase compliance with SWPPP requirements. The system is maintained by a simple cleaning which is often performed by a street sweeper or a skid steer with a broom attachment. The maintenance of the FODS system is often incorporated into the existing sweeping schedule which proactively keeps all site entrances in a functioning and compliant state throughout the project.

FODS Reusable Construction Entrance offers an advanced alternative that is easy to set up, maintain, and remove. Compared to traditional rock entrances which need frequent refreshing, and degrade quickly in weather conditions, FODS mats do not degrade in weather conditions and enable a more consistent solution to managing construction site trackout.

FODS Tracking Control Device is made of rows of pyramids which actively separate tire lugs causing mud and debris to break loose and collect in the base of the pyramids. With an expected lifespan of 10+ years, the reusability and versatility of FODS entrance systems offer multiple configurations well-suited to changing construction entrance and substrate needs.
