The State of Washington Department of Ecology Designates FODS a ‘Functionally Equivalent Technology BMP’ & Approved Temporary Erosion Control Mechanism
The State of Washington Department of Ecology gives FODS Reusable Construction Entrance the green light as a Functionally Equivalent Technology BMP and Temporary Erosion Control Mechanism.
This designation is based on the description found under BMP C105: Stabilized Construction Entrance in both Eastern and Western Washington Stormwater Management Manuals (SWMMEW, SWMMWW):
Stabilized construction accesses are established to reduce the amount of sediment transported onto paved roads by vehicles or equipment. (SWMMEW, Chapter 7, Page 784; SWMMWW, Volume II, Chapter 3, Page 315)
Department of Ecology Review Process
The State of Washington Department of Ecology review and designation process of FODS involved:
The overall effectiveness of FODS Reusable Construction Entrances at preventing sediment from migrating off site
FODS, LLC., submittal of third party testing results exhibiting the durability and capability of single pyramids to support 20,000 lbs. of pressure and each mat to support 250,000 lbs. of pressure
Past and current performance rating based on contractor and project management feedback from many projects of all types from all over the state of Washington
Review of the FODS design, technicalities and versatility in meeting standard entrance requirements
Case studies, FODS Modern Construction Entrance video, installation guide, CAD configuration drawings, other supplied resources
“The Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology) finds that contractors may use the FODS construction entrance mats as a temporary erosion control mechanism.”
“Contractors may use FODS construction entrance mats at project sites without seeking additional Ecology approval.”

FODS Construction Entrance Details
FODS Reusable Construction Entrance offers an advanced alternative that is easy to set up, maintain, remove, and is ecologically friendly - versus traditional riprap entrances that take time to install, need continual refreshment, quickly become ineffective, and end up as construction site waste that simply cannot be reused.
FODS Tracking Control Device has proven to be effective at stopping offsite construction debris with minimal maintenance throughout the duration of a project. Rows of pyramids on our mats actively separate tire lugs causing mud and debris to collect in the base of the FODS construction access mats before it can enter stormwater runoff impacting water quality.
With an expected lifespan of ten plus years, the reusability and versatility of FODS entrance systems offer multiple configurations well-suited to changing construction entrance and substrate needs.
