Maryland Department Of The Environment Approves FODS For Use As Construction Entrance BMP (B-1)

The Maryland Department of the Environment Grants Provisional Approval for FODS Trackout Control Mat System As Construction Entrance Solution.

FODS has been presented as a lower cost, longer lasting alternative to the current Maryland specification B-1, “Stabilized Construction Entrance” (SCE). The main differences between the FODS product and the current Maryland specifications for SCE include elimination of the aggregate layer and associated geotextile and replacing them with a reusable, durable plastic mat. After reviewing the performance of the FODS Trackout Control System on two sites over the course of one year, the Maryland Department of the Environment has concluded that the system is approved for use on projects throughout the state.

The Department grants provisional approval for FODS to be considered as a substitute for SCE in conditions where SCE would typically be specified. The FODS product has demonstrated the ability to perform under the same conditions specified for SCE if the manufacturer’s installation and maintenance guidelines are followed.

Maryland Provisional Approval Status

“Provisional” approval status enables local Soil Conservation Districts in Maryland to allow the use of FODS on any projects as needed. Contractors, engineers, and specifiers now have an additional BMP solution for managing construction site track out that is both cost effective and reusable.

FODS Construction Entrance Details

FODS Reusable Construction Entrance offers an advanced alternative that is easy to set up, maintain, remove, and is ecologically friendly - versus traditional riprap entrances that take time to install, need continual refreshment, quickly become ineffective, and end up as construction site waste that simply cannot be reused.

FODS Tracking Control Device has proven to be effective at stopping offsite construction debris with minimal maintenance throughout the duration of a project. Rows of pyramids on our mats actively separate tire lugs causing mud and debris to collect in the base of the FODS construction access mats before it can enter stormwater runoff impacting water quality.

With an expected lifespan of ten plus years, the reusability and versatility of FODS entrance systems offer multiple configurations well-suited to changing construction entrance and substrate needs.
